The VBS 2026, The Jesus Journey, inspired by Matthew 28:20 (“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”), commenced on Friday, 3 July 2026, at 6:30 p.m. with the registration of participants. A total of 184 students registered for the VBS on first day. Mrs. Alice Shibu and Mrs. Merin Mary George served as the convenors of the VBS. The children were warmly welcomed, divided into four teams—Little Explorers (3-6 years), Trailblazers (7-9 years) Pathfinders(10-12years), and Journey Crew (13-17 years)—and provided with their Journey Passports, which they will use throughout the Vacation Bible School.
The first day began with an opening prayer led by Rev. Jacob George, invoking God’s blessings upon the VBS. The convener, Mrs. Merin Mary George, officially welcomed everyone, creating an atmosphere of joy, warmth, and fellowship.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Rev. Jacob George, who encouraged the children to participate wholeheartedly in every activity and to grow spiritually throughout their journey with Christ.
Mrs. Anila Philip, the Headmistress, introduced the VBS Director and highlighted the significance of lifelong commitment to missionary work. She emphasized that missionary service requires dedication, patience, and perseverance, and that only a true follower of Christ can carry out this calling faithfully.
Mr. Deepu George, Director of this year’s VBS, is the founder of Jesus Inspires Initiatives (JII), a global Christian ministry and has extensive experience conducting Vacation Bible Schools, teen meetings, and leadership training programmes in various places. He delivered an inspiring message, encouraging the participants to actively engage in every activity and deepen their personal relationship with God.
The gathering continued with the theme song leaded by the singing team and other interactive activities, setting the stage for the spiritual journey ahead.
The First Learning Session – Stop 1: Bethlehem
The first learning session, Stop 1 – Bethlehem, introduced the theme “God Comes Near” based on Luke 2:11: “For unto you is born this day… a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
The session highlighted the following key points:
God loved us so much that He left heaven and stepped into our world. Jesus is Immanuel, meaning “God with us.” The entire journey of salvation begins with the night of His birth. Jesus was born to be with us, to become one with us in every way, and to lead us on the path to eternity.
Jesus brought good news, hope, peace, and joy. He is a humble King, born in a manger. The session reflected on the faith and obedience of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the humility of the wise men. God guided the wise men through a star.
We are called to prepare for this journey through prayer, faithfulness, obedience, discipline, and dedication.
The children were also inspired by the story of Father Damien of Molokai, a priest who chose to live among the outcasts. Father Damien did not help from a distance; instead, he came close and became one of them. In the same way, God did not remain far away in heaven but came down to be with us. Immanuel—God with us
Through Bible-based teaching and engaging activities, the children learned about God’s love and His coming into the world through Jesus Christ. As part of the activity, each child drew a star in their Journey Passport. The session concluded with the collection of the first stamp in each participant’s Journey Passport, marking the successful completion of the first stop of their journey.
The day’s VBS concluded with a closing prayer led by the VBS Director, thanking God for a meaningful and blessed beginning to VBS 2026. The programme ended at 9:00 p.m. with announcements by the convener, Mrs. Alice Shibu. Snacks were served to all the participants. A dedicated team of teachers and volunteers selflessly served throughout the VBS, offering their unwavering support and ensuring the smooth conduct of every activity.
